Subependymal cysts in normal neonates.
We undertook a prospective ultrasound study of subependymal cyst formation in normal neonates. Twenty five of 500 normal Chinese neonates (5%) were found to have subependymal cysts. Most of these (18 of 25) showed no obvious perinatal insult. This study suggests a rather high incidence of concealed intrauterine subependymal haemorrhage in normal term neonates.
متن کامل[Diagnosis of subependymal cysts by brain ultrasound].
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to describe the clinical data and sonographic evolution of subependymal cysts (SEC) and to compare alone SEC versus SEC combined with other brain abnormalities. METHODS The diagnosis of SEC relied on the discovery of one/several cysts at the outer angle of one/both lateral ventricles detected by routine brain ultrasound tests in the first days of life. Duri...
متن کاملNeurosonographic recognition of subependymal cysts in high-risk neonates.
Serial neurosonography was performed in 210 high-risk, preterm neonates. Eleven (5.8%) demonstrated small cystic formations in the subependymal lining of the lateral ventricles. These subependymal cysts were unilateral and were detected at the exact site of a previous subependymal hemorrhage in two cases. These 11 infants were not significantly different in maturity, size, or clinical parameter...
متن کاملAmino acid incorporation and biotin deficiency.
Biotin deficiency in chicks has been reported to result in a marked decrease in the synthesis of albumin and in the activity of amylase (3). Kritsman, Konikova, and Yukhnovskaya (4) observed that the incorporation of methionine-S3s into the proteins of biotin-deficient rats was reduced as compared to the normal animals. Studies in vitro gave similar results; also, the addition of biotin to the ...
متن کاملClinical symptoms of biotin deficiency in animals1
The main biochemical function of biotin, one of the B complex group of vitamins, is as a coenzyme in certain enzymatic reactions associated with decarboxylation and carbon dioxide fixation. It thus has an important role in intermediary metabolism (1). Biotin is so widely distributed in foods and so abundantly produced by intestinal bacteria that it is doubtful whether a spontaneous biotin defic...
